The humanoid HRP-4CA, center, dances on stage with human dancers in Tokyo. The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology has developed the software Choreonoid enabling a robot to make complicated moves like dancing by moving computer graphics of the robot on a display by a mouse before the action.

Japan’s first banana vending machine has been installed in Shibuya, near the Hanzomon Line gate. Dole says the bananas have sold out every single day since the machine’s debut on June 23. The cost is 130 yen for a single banana and 390 yen for a 600-gram bunch containing four to five pieces of fruit. Dole says it plans to sell other fruit products in vending machines in locations like universities and office buildings.

TOMY Co has launched a new version of its “Bowlingual voice” device, which the company says “translates” dog emotions. The wireless microphone device, which fits on a dog’s collar, transmits the animal’s sound to a handheld consul which analyzes and “translates” into six emotional categories. The device then emits a common phrase matching the dog’s emotional state, both in words and voices.

A model displays lingerie maker Triumph International’s new “Konkatsu Bra,” literally meaning “marriage-hunting” bra, in Tokyo. The bra features a countdown clock showing the marriage deadline set by the wearer and when an engagement ring is inserted between the cups, the melody of “The Wedding March” is played to celebrate the engagement. The characters on the bra read, “now hunting for a husband.”
